Safety & Environmental Manager

Location: Boardman, Oregon

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties.  It is not all-inclusive.  Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and, management may modify this job description as needed.

  1. Implements, and administers government required safety, health and environmental programs to ensure facility safety and environmental compliance.
  2. Generates government required OSHA reports
  3. Conducts routine safety and environmental inspections to control occupational and environmental hazards.  Performs job safety hazards analyses with shift supervisors
  4. Conducts new hire safety and environmental orientation.  Works with supervisors to investigate all accidents and environmental incidents
  5. Oversight of company Safety Incentive Program
  6. Tracks effectiveness of company safety and environmental programs and presents as appropriate.
  7. Acts as a liaison with State, Federal and local agencies on safety issues.
Education/Experience

Minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree in Safety & Health or Environment or closely related field and documented safety experience and/or environmental experience in an industrial setting, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

Qualifications

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of state (ID) and Federal (Occupational Safety and Health Administration “OSHA”, U.S. Department of Transportation, etc.).  Certificates from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH) are desirable.

Must be able to prepare clear, comprehensive and concise technical reports for effective communication with a variety of internal and external entities. Must have effective presentation and communication skills for delivery of training programs and reports to plant employees and regulatory agencies.  Proficiency in utilization of MS Office software including MS Word and Excel.

Lab Manager

Location: Burley, Idaho

Classification: Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties.  It is not all-inclusive.  Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and, management may modify this job description as needed.

  1. Manages and supervises laboratory technicians; provides direction on projects and tasks, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; provides training, and motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance;
  2. Supervises day-to-day laboratory activities; routinely inspects the laboratory equipment and reports problems or concerns;
  3. Tests chemical samples to determine their make-up and properties and advises on alternative ethanol production methods;
  4. Ensures that all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and test results are accurate
  5. Researches new chemical and biochemical processes; documents research findings and provides quarterly analysis of possible chemical applications/alternatives;
  6. Periodically tests incoming raw materials for adherence to specifications.
  7. Ensures that all products adhere to specifications and are in compliance with established quality criteria.
  8. Identifies opportunities to improve ethanol production through testing and experimenting; prepares equipment, products and material for experiments and surveys; records findings;
  9. Manages supplies, tracks inventory, and orders laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure adequate supplies are available;
  10. Ensures compliance with state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations, and adherence to quality assurance programs and safety standards;
  11. Coordinates with laboratory technicians and other plant department managers to optimize plant operations so that facility goals are maximized within the parameters of company standards;
  12. Participates in the development, and the administration of annual operating plans and fiscal budgets;
  13. Develops, implements, and enforces safety programs to promote a safe cautious environment and to minimize safety hazards/injuries;
  14. Communicates regularly with the Plant Manager to keep him/her informed of chemical research, testing results, and off spec products.
  15. Directly supervises laboratory technicians
  16. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  17. Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training plant employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Supportive Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Keeps up with new laboratory products that maximize testing results; sets up purchase orders with vendors;
  2. Attends and participates in management meetings, professional work related meetings/ conferences to enhance professional development.
Education/Experience
  1. Bachelors of Science or equivalent: preferably in bio-chemistry or related field;
  2. Three to four year’s lab or chemistry experience;
  3. Experience supervising/managing employees.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Must be able to work in cold or hot temperatures; inside or outside; around dust, and/or moderate to loud noises; in dark or limited lighted area.
  • Able to lift, pull, carry, pick-up, grasping, lift and maneuver average to heavy objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces; operate hand and power tools; perform physical labor; sit at a desk and operate computer and keyboard; visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear, speak and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; lift horizontally and vertically, bend, stoop, stand, and reach, kneel, crouch and crawl.

Maintenance Mechanic

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties.  It is not all-inclusive.  Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and, management may modify this job description as needed.

  1. Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plans for and takes corrective action.  Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.
  2. Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for production, changes over equipment to new sizes or performs scheduled maintenance.
  3. Tests equipment to check operation.  Tries out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.
  4. Examines, tests and measures product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using gauges and instruments, and records data on appropriate forms.  Checks for visual defects.
  5. Makes preventive maintenance check and inspections of assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
  6. Analyzes and records cause of production delays on daily production report.
  7. Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Company values; promote an environment that appreciates diversity and treats all people with respect, prohibiting discrimination and harassment of any kind.
  8. Ensure a safe, healthy work environment by following all safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and regulations per the Company’s IIPP, job safe practices and other related programs.

Education/Experience
  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. 4 year degree in related field
  3. 2 to 4 years electrical experience

Qualifications
  1. Excellent organizational skills
  2. Bilingual preferred
  3. Detailed oriented and multi-tasking is a must
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  5. Ability to learn data entry
  6. Valid Idaho driver’s license

Physical Requirements

Requirements include: frequently stand and walk. Occasionally to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, climb stairs and ladders or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear and smell.  Exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust or focus.
